Launching of Women Safety in Public Places (WSPP) campaign

On 14 October 2020, our Chairperson, Saima Wazed launched a campaign titled "Women's Safety in Public Places" at an online event organized by Centre for Research and Information (CRI), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). Along with our Chairperson, who is also the Vice-Chairperson and Trustee of CRI, the other panelists were Nasima Begum, NDC Chairman, National Human Rights Commission, Bangladesh, Sudipto Mukerji, Resident Representative, UNDP Bangladesh, Fazilatunesa Indira MP, State Minister, MoWCA, Zunaid Ahmed Palak MP, State Minister ICT Division, Zuena Aziz, Chief Coordinator, SDG Affairs to the Prime Minister’s Office, Dr. Benazir Ahmed BPM, Inspector General, Bangladesh Police, and Aroma Dutta MP. The event was hosted by Dr. Nuzhat Choudhury, Associate Professor, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMU). The primary aim of the discussion was to bring positive transformation to the attitude and behaviors of community members and relevant stakeholders regarding this campaign and identify policy gaps that require immediate attention to address this issue at the policy level. Prior to the launching, a three-day long residential workshop on Gender-based violence and Women’s Safety in Public Places was held at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Youth Development to understand the perception of the Bangladeshi youth on gender-based violence and women’s safety at public places. The workshop was held from 1-3 April 2019, organized by the Center for Research and Information (CRI), Young Bangla, and Center for Men and Masculinities Studies in collaboration with UNDP. Attendees from 32 different organizations in Bangladesh working in their local communities to resolve problems by overcoming challenges, actively participated in the workshop.
