Revisiting modality for the Empowerment of Families Program due to pandemic

Shuchona Foundation welcomed Centro Ann Sullivan Del Peru (CASP) team earlier in the week of March 2020 to Dhaka. Colleagues from CASP visited Bangladesh for the third time since the beginning of our Empowerment of Families program in July 2019. Since then, Shuchona Foundation has been consistently working with CASP to implement their model at Proyash Institute of Special Education. The primary goal of the visits and the prospective implementation of the CASP model is to progress towards a more functional learning environment at Proyash, which will allow the students to become more independent, productive, and happy. Starting from 1 March 2020, the Shuchona Foundation team and the CASP team together have been closely conducting regular classroom observations and teachers’ trainings at Proyash. These also included a pre-recorded video session by CASP Founder, Dr. Liliana Mayo on strategies teachers can use. Furthermore, the CASP team conducted a three-week training at Proyash which focused on developing functional and natural IEP for students based on the CASP model. All these sessions were initially supposed to be continued till 20th March 2020, but due to the pandemic CASP team’s visit was cut a few days short, and so the sessions continued every day of the week until 16 March 2020. Considering the current pandemic situation, Shuchona team is working on revising the plans to be shared with CASP to collectively decide on how to take the work forward.
