Shuchona Foundation Chairperson invited to CVF-CoP-26 Dialogue: Meeting the Survival Deadline towards Maximal Resilience

On 30 November 2020, our Chairperson, Ms. Saima Wazed was invited to an online event titled "CVF-CoP 26 Dialogue: Meeting the Survival Deadline towards Maximal Resilience’ organized by the Bangladesh High Commission in the UK. Ms. Wazed participated in the event in her capacity as the CVF Thematic Ambassador for ‘Vulnerability’. The aim of the dialogue was to provide a platform for the CVF countries represented in London to voice their expectations and ambitions leading up to COP-26 under the UK's Presidency towards achieving maximal resilience for the CVF countries facing existential threat due to climate change. This virtual event was designed as a dialogue between policymakers and experts on how to raise ambition and with it, finance, for health resilience to climate change. Several prominent policymakers spoke at the dialogue. The session focused on the adverse impacts of climate change on the health and well-being of people and will increasingly do so over the next decades. Although all populations are at risk, some are more vulnerable than others. It is a critical decision to increase resilience to climate-related risks and build the capacity of national health systems by considering climate risks in health policy and decision making, strengthening leadership and governance to address impacts, and implementing strategies to build climate-resilient health care systems. Furthermore, the participants tried to resolve major critical questions related to health adaptation and health resilience to climate change. Along with our Chairperson, Ms. Saima Wazed, The Rt Hon Lord Zac Goldsmith, UK’s Minister for Pacific, Environment & COP-26 elevated the event as the Guest of Honour and His Excellency Mr. Md. Shahriar Alam, MP Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh on behalf of CVF Presidency participated as the Chief Guest. CVF High Commissioners and Ambassadors based in London, who represented their countries and regions, also spoke at the event.
