Shuchona Foundation’s Participation in ‘Multi-Stakeholder Hearing’ by UN Women and United Nations Entity for Gender Equality

On 21 July 2020, Md. Serajus Sadekin Chowdhury and Khadiza Akter, from the management team of Shuchona Foundation attended a virtual multi-stakeholder hearing on the theme of “Accelerating the realization of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls” as part of the preparations for the High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly. The virtual multi-stakeholder hearing was organized by United Nations Headquarters, supported by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality, the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women) to ensure the active participation of multi-stakeholders, and by UN General Assembly as part of the preparations of the upcoming high-level meeting (HLM), scheduled to be held on 23 September 2020. Participants for this interactive hearing were representatives from UN, intergovernmental organizations, and specialized agencies that have the observer status with the Assembly along with representatives of CSOs with Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) consultative status, and national human rights institutions amongst others. The aim of the multi-stakeholder hearing was to take stock of the outcomes and recommendations of the 25-year review processes, including the 64th session of the Commission on the Status of Women. The multi-stakeholder hearing provided an opportunity to exchange experiences, lessons learned, and good practices among different stakeholders, through inter-active dialogues, to advance the full, effective, and accelerated implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
